North Carolina-based Animeigo sent the major players in their Oh My Goddess
English-language dub to Animazement. Juliet "Belldandy" Cesario (left)
and Lanelle "Urd" Markgraf were on hand. "It's very focused work and that's
what I like as an actor," Markgraf said. Cesario hoped more people would
try her voice work as an alternative to the Japanese-language original.
"Most of the people who say dubs suck have never seen what we do," said
Cesario. |

Pamela "Skuld" Weidner wanted to be Urd, but producers cast her as the
youngest goddess instead. She defended dubs, saying flat performances are
caused by poorly-prepared actors or bad directors. "Too many are in its
just for the money. It hurts to see a beautiful story ruined by a bad dub,"
Weidner said.@ |

Scott "Keichi" Simpson, Cesario's husband, said his job was eased by being
married to Belldandy, but voice acting is not easy. "An actor goes home
with a copy of the tape and the script, then proceeds with hour after hour
of studying the script, the mouth movements and the emotions," said Simpson.
"It's a collaborative thing and the heart of collaboration is compromise." |

Dave Underwood, something of the newcomer in this group, got to play the
voice of God in the OMG series. "The hardest thing that we as actors are
trying to overcome is 30 years of prejudice against dubs. What we would
love is for people to give us a chance." |

from singing into voice acting, although she admits she doesn't have the
right voice for older women or grandmothers. |
