Anime Expo Day One Highlights - July 3, 1998

We'll show you how fans at Anime Expo redefined "early arrival," from those who wanted to have a good time to those who wanted to be first in line.	And, here is a glance of the people who wore their costumes to Anime Expo in the first few hours of the event on Friday.
The main hall was packed for the opening ceremonies that featured popular guests of honor.	Bandai had a big announcement: Gundam, a 20-year-old series, a hardcore fan-favorite never released in the U.S., is coming to America.
Mika Akitaka grew up watching Gundam. It started him on his animation career and led to Galaxy Fraulein Yuna.	What does a retro-future Western have to do with a magical girl show and the successor to Aeon Flux? They're all from the Madhouse production studio.
This man is loved by Anime Expo fans, but most of those fans can't understand a word he's saying - and Akira Kamiya can't believe it.	And the first day of Anime Expo 98 concludes with more cosplayers and general nonsense.
