Katsucon Day 3 - Panel Predicaments - Feb. 14, 1999

There was supposed to be a Sunday morning panel with leaders of the American anime industry on the state of the business in the U.S. - but the leaders never showed up. So, the fans took over. Fan John Roberts (left) and fan-turned-artist Michael Hayes (right) got out of their seats, strode to the head table and launched a discussion about what the people in the room really liked.
A little late in the same room, the participants had a prettier sight. Costumers Meg (left) and Heather, wearing their latest winged creations, spoke about their lives and their costumes, efforts that led them to be named fan guests of honor at Katsucon. Among other things, the audience learned that Heather doesn't like to get up in the morning.
In another room, voice actors Michael Brady (left) and Tristan MacAvery (right) reprised their act. Brady had a story from a recording studio about the time that he managed to sneak a strange sound effect into an Crusher Joe dub (you have to listen very, very closely to the tape). MacAvery told the audience that acting skill counts in the studio, but there are other tricks to producing a good performance - like an actor's unseen body language.
