The room was
packed when manga artist Yuu Watase sat down to answer the questions of
Animazement fans. The popular creator of Fushigi Yuugi was peppered with
enthusiastic inquiries. What were her favorite video games? Final Fantasy
and Resident Evil. How far has her current manga project gone? Ten volumes
and still growing. What did she like when she was in junior high school?

What is her
favorite anime? Nothing now, but she watched everything on TV when she
was younger and really enjoyed Galaxy Express 999 and Space Cruiser Yamato.
How old was she when she started to draw? Watase said she started making
he own comics when she was five years old. what is her favorite music?
Techno, classical and Kanno Yohko. What does she draw with? A "G" pen and
Dr. Martin's ink. |
What is Watase's
advice to young artists? "Don't be too self-indulgent. When you do your
stories, keep your mind on what your readers want." How does she come up
with those stories? "If I try to concentrate on things I need to create,
I get confused. I just sit there and the ideas pop into my head. I find
when I'm listening to music, the ideas come up." |
And what does
Watase think of the people who dress as the characters from her manga?
"Wow, they do that really well," she said. |
