| It's been one year since this page first encountered Tavisha and Rikki
Simons, the married couple that makes up Tavicat Comics. At A-Kon 10, the
Simons said they have some big plans for the future, but some major concerns
for the present. The couple's signature comic is no longer under their
control, they said. |
 |
The Simons are best known for the virtual reality series titled Reality
Check, which had been published by Sirius. On Friday. Rikki Simons said
that Sirius had decided to stop publishing that title, but also had decided
not to give them control over the characters he and his wife had created.
They might have to buy the series back from Sirius, the Simons said. The
couple seemed frustrated that they weren't in a position to restart the
Reality Check
series. "We were pretty naive at the time, we're new to this,"
Tavisha said about the contract they signed that gave Sirius control over
Reality Check. |
 |
| In the meantime, the Simons continue with the Sushi Girls series for
Mixx Entertainment, something they took on because they wanted their work
to be in the same publication with the Sailor Moon series that Mixx runs
in the U.S. They're also working with a company called Digital Manga to
color Osamu Tezuka manga for a CD-ROM, and to import to the U.S. screentone,
the background shading on plastic strips that is used by manga artists. |
 |
| On top of that, the Simons are starting work on another new comic,
the story of an old android and a young clone. Despite that work, the couple
still pines for the chance to do more Reality Check. "It's (the new series)
more of a serious story, something I've wanted to do for a long time...but
I still want to get back to Reality Check," Rikki said. |
