| Just like with the Space Ghost Coast to Coast crew at Anime Weekend
Atlanta last year, Tim Thomerson has nothing to do with anime. He's a 53-year-old
character actor who specializes in "B" movies, horror and action films
intended to entertain rather than stir deep emotions. Thomerson is an entertainer,
not necessarily an artist - and that's probably why he was invited to Project:
A-Kon 10. |

| When Thomerson spoke to fans on Friday, it was a cross between a stand-up
comedy act and a night in a tavern going over old stories. One moment,
Thomerson was telling how he thinks there's little chance of another Trancers
movie being made because there's no money. The next moment, he was doing
John Wayne impressions and telling raunchy stories about how, according
to him, movies really are made. "I just make these things," he told the
delighted audience, impressed with the old pro's showing. "I never know
when they're going to come out...they never tell me." |
 |
| Thomerson might play the comedian at a convention, but he takes his
acting seriously - even if he doesn't gave that consideration to all actors.
"It's hard to take the Academy Awards seriously when they're talking about
the Haitian refugees ...and they wouldn't have some of them at their house.
I call them limousine liberals," Thomerson said. |
 |
| What about the anime convention world? Thomerson likes what he sees.
"I think it's pretty neat that a bunch of folks and see these films and
artists - and things I've never seen." The costuming phenomenon isn't new
to thomerson, however. He tells the story of an Army colonel who showed
up at a science fiction convention in a Spock outfit from Star Trek once...right
down to the ears. |
