| Last year at Project: A-Kon, Pat Duke of Radio Comix said the small
independent company was going to publish its first manga title, Mechanical
Man Blues by character designer Tsukasa Kotobuki. One year later, the first
two issues of Blues have been published, with more on the way. Duke said
that his company would had a special one-shot, Mechanical Man Blues Toolbox,
of art inspired by the Kotobuki title. |
 |
| Mechanical Man Blues signaled the start of a larger push by Radio Comix
into the manga world. Two more titles will follow in the next year by Hideo
Tamaki (who drew the Star Wars manga) and Asari Yoshito (Duke expects a
"very cool and idiosyncratic manga" from him). On top of that will come
a Manga anthology titled "Manga File," featuring American manga-style comics
and news and interviews about the manga scene, "geared at how manga is
created," according to Duke. |
 |
| "The list of people who want to be involved in this title is amazing,"
said Duke, noting that there will be interviews with Adam Warren and Kenichi
Sonoda in the first issues of Manga File. Other Radio Comix domestic titles,
such as Furrlough, Genus and Milk, will continue - with more attention
to layout and cover design. |
 |
| Duke said he wants Radio Comix to grow, but not too quickly or to the
point that the company is rushed in publishing its titles. "We're trying
to ramp up the quality," he said. "We're trying not just to slap together
a title." |
