| At Project: A-Kon 9, Houston-based ADV Films announced they had acquired
several major anime titles, so many that they're still trying to finish
all of them at Project: A-Kon 10. Matt Greenfield of ADV went over the
list at a Saturday panel: Master of Mosquiton, Compiler, Sonic the Hedgehog,
Galaxy Fraulein Yuna, Variable Geo, Power Dolls 2, Ninja Resurrection 2,
Tattoon Master, Princess Nine, Gasaraki - just a few of the titles on the
company's production schedule. |
 |
| Greenfield said that the Bubble Gum Crisis 2040 series likely would
be released in August, Martian Successor Nadesico would follow in November
and Nadia of the Mysterious Seas would get to stores in early 2000. To
get those titles translated and released, "We've been increasing our production
capacity almost exponentially," said Greenfield, with four ADV production
units working on anime series. |
 |
| ADV had one production unit in operation when Blue Seed was the company's
biggest series. Then Neon Genesis Evangelion "dropped into our laps," Greenfield
said, producing so much work that ADV had to shut down their Soft Cel adult
line to finish the hot new series. Soft Cel will be restarted, he said,
with the earlier-promised Can Can Bunny and Idol Singer of Darkness still
pending. |
 |
| When Greenfield said that ADV was planning to release additional titles
on DVD, there was applause in the panel room. Then a fan asked why the
first DVD releases would be older titles from the company's catalog such
as Ruin Explorers, Battle Angel and Cutey Honey. "We want to see with the
older titles...what will happen," Greenfield answered, noting that production
costs for DVDs are high as the new format gets started. |
