Otakon VI - July 3rd, 1999 - Mari Iijima

A brief interruption by a fire alarm didn't stop Mari Iijima's Otakon concert, nor dampen the enthusiasm of fans who wanted to see the talented singer and songwriter. A few days before the concert, Iijima had finished recording her "No Limit" album, featuring songs she wrote in English. Iijima planned to release the album at Anime Expo, two weeks later, and on her web site. She invited fans to see her at the Anaheim concert, featuring her full band.

"I'm not Minmay. I'm not a Chinese girl," Iijima reminded fans about her famous Macross voice and singing role. Iijima is proud of her long singing and songwriting career, but still dreams of success in the U.S. music market, with "No Limit" as the first step.

(By the way, apparently that fire alarm was pulled in a room being used as a day care center in another part of the Baltimore Convention Center that was not being used by Otakon.)
