| ...where Ledford and Matt Greenfield of ADV announced a couple of new
titles: Shin Getter Robo and Sorcerous Stabber Orphen. The last word in
that last title, by the way, is deliberately misspelled, according to Greenfield.
He pointed out that common words can't be copyrighted, so some names have
odd spelling to make new words that can be copyrighted. (That might explain
those oddly-spelled names of rap groups.) Other new titles from ADV: the
live-action Parasite Eve, Tokyo Blue Police Branch 22 (it's said to have
an interesting concealed weapon scene) and Dragon Blue. |

| Viz Communications had an interesting anime announcement: Love and
Pop. from the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Toshifumi Yoshida (left)
and editor Bill Flanagan had a lot of information on Viz' anime and manga
titles, starting with a lot of Pokemon (are you ready for Electric Pikachu
Boogaloo?). Along with more of the current Pokemon comic, the nation's
best-seller, Viz will have a new Pokemon comic based on the Red V. Blue
game (with lead characters named Red and Blue, not surprisingly). Kids'
Pokemon books that tell the stories of individual pocket monsters, Pokemon
graphic novels (complete with Pokemon pinups) and Pokemon origami are some
of the items coming from Viz. No Evangelion manga for several months,
however. Yes, they did acknowledge the missing scene in the Video Girl
Ai tape and promised to supply free replacements for the flawed copies.
The other big video announcements came from other companies. Manga Entertainment
has the rights to the Neon Genesis Evangelion movies (ADV Films had the
TV series). Animego has the rights to re-release the original Superdimensional
Fortress Macross series (which hasn't been seen on store shelves since
the TV dub was released years ago). |
