Anime Weekend Atlanta 5 - Mari Iijima Concert

When Mari Iijima asked the AWA audience if they wanted to hear her sing another song on Friday night, the crowd cheered their approval. And twice, when Iijima thought she had finished selling her No Limit CD and signing autographs after her AWA concert, more fans walked up and wanted to meet the singer.

It was that kind of crowd on the convention's first night, a group of people who sat in rapt silence as Iijima performed (they were so quiet that you could hear noises from the hall outside the ballroom used for the concert).

This concert differed from the other anime convention performances Iijima has given. It truly was a solo performance in a couple of ways. Iijima accompanied herself on the keyboard for all but one song (following the positive response she got to her CN Anime concert), using pre-recorded tracks only for that one song. And Iijima was on her own, leaving her twin sons at home for the first time this season.
Most of the songs were older songs from her career, including one inspired from her first heartbreak at 21. "I used to cry when I sang this song on stage," she said. "Later I thought that was so silly."
