| FanimeCon - Day Two - Cosplayers |
In one of
Friday's last events, a group of cosplayers met in a small room at the
hotel. Many of the group were members of the Cosplayers' Mailing List and
had never had a chance to meet each other in person. Aya, who greeted everyone
with her wings, had a surprise for the group in the book that she held... |
...a book
of cosplayers trading cards from Japan. Just like baseball cards in the
U.S., a group of costumers had picture cards produced and distributed.
This collection wasn't for sale, but everyone in the room was encouraged
to take a look - so Aya could record their reactions. The costumers and
fans at the FanimeCon meeting seemed delighted with what they saw. |
While a group
of Japanese cosplayers wasn't able to get to FanimeCon (their leader was
called away on business in Europe, Aya said), one costuming fan traveled
to the convention from Shropshire, Great Britain. Fiona Clark, who has
attended and volunteered at sci-fi and anime conventions in Great Britain,
noted that her trip to the California convention was nearly as long as
a trip from Japan. |
Seen admiring
a pair of costume wings (they weren't real feathers, by the way, but you
had to look very close to tell), Clark said she'd like to set up a web
site one day with costuming information so that fans can learn how to make
better outfits without having to repeat others' mistakes. |
