At the start of the ceremony, vice-chairman richard "Pocky" Kim (left) welcomed Keith Mayfield (in the chair) to his new post as chairman of Katsucon. Mayfield managed to escape... |
...and took some time to introduce some of the dozens of hard-working volunteers who make the convention work. |
Then it was time to introduce the guests of honor. From Japan came Kondom, the creator of the Bondage Fairies series. |
Then came Hiroyuki Utatane and his wife, artist Ryo Ramiya. Utatane, who created the Countdown and Temptation series, joked through a translator that he had come to the convention to take pictures of girls. |
More serious was a man with a well-earned reputation as a serious artist: Yoshitaka Amano, best known for his illustrations of the Sandman series and Vampire Hunter D. |
