| Project: A-Kon - Saturday
- Rachael Lillis |
When Rachael
Lillis finished recording the lines of Jessie for the Pokemon series for
the first time, she left the studio and said good-bye to the crew, figuring
that was the only time she'd see that group for a one-shot role. But, "They
said `You're coming back next week,' " and Lillis knew that she might have
something going. All of that was part of her initiation to the success
of the Pokemon TV series, now into its second year and still going strong. |
When Lillis
spoke to fans at Project: A-Kon, they mostly were interested in Misty and
Jessie from Pokemon, as they are at most conventions (her Utena Tenjoh
work seems to be lost by comparison). Lillis told about how fascinating
it was to see children playing with Pokemon cards and acting out shows.
Then there was the word that the 6:30 a.m. showing of Pokemon on New York
TV - the only time a station would run the program at first - got higher
ratings than Today on NBC. |
So how does
Lillis think up all of those characters? Thank Aunt Marge, a relative whose
eccentric speech was borrowed by Lillis for one of the Pokemon characters
she voiced. "I got a phone call from her and she said `What have I been
telling you my whole life, don't imitate me,' " Lillis recalled. |
