Bôa
has become known to anime fans as the "Lain band" because of their song,
"Duvet," which has become the opening song for the Serial Experiments Lain
series. People at Otakon got a rare treat when bôa made one of their
rare North American concert appearances at the Baltimore event. On hand
were the band members (left to right): drummer Lee Sullivan, singer Jasmine
Rodgers, keyboardist Paul Turrell, bassist Alex Caird and guitarist Steve
Rodgers. |
How did "Duvet"
become the Lain theme? Friendship and artistry, Jasmine Rodgers said. A
representative of the band's producer was also a friend of Lain's producer,
and he made the connection. The song's lyrics also led to the decision,
she noted. "A child that was falling through the air - that was the way
it was explained to me," she said. |
Lain is about
the strange story of a child grown up too fast in a weird computerized
world, and the story line fits the humanistic nature of bôa's songs.
"It brings in issues for teens and people in trouble, brings them right
to the forefront," Jasmine Rodgers said. "I think the thing he (Lain's
creator) added (about) computers applies to people because of technology
and the Internet." |
Bôa
enjoys the attention that the Lain theme has drawn, but the group doesn't
want to change its mission. "We like animation and we'd like to work with
other animators," Turrell said, "but we're still strictly a band." |
