The Guyver helmet on the previous page was made by David Carpenter,
who worked two years on the costume he planned to show for the first time
at the Saturday night costume contest. That costume was made of hot glue,
formed plastic and holiday ornaments... |
...and there's an equally interesting story behind the Godzilla costume
that won best of show at Anime Central five months earlier, which was brought
to Neko-Con. |
For the first time, the guys who made the costume disassembled it in
public and let some of its secrets be known. |
It's no surprise that the Godzilla suit is made from foam and cloth,
but it is different that the suit comes in sections. The dorsal plates
are attached to a shoulder harness that supports and spreads the weight. |
Inside the head is wiring that lights the costume's eyes. The head
also is hinged so the mouth can move. |
Most surprising is that the Godzilla suit has no teeth. Instead, they're
small bells that are painted white and attached to the jaws. |
