 As promised,
Aka-Kon delivered on their Dirty Pair reunion, featuring the three key
figures in the ADV Films dubs of the first series of the original OVA series.
Producer David Williams (left) appeared with Jessica Calvello (center),
the English-language voice of Yuri, and Pamela Lauer (right), the English-language
voice of Kei. Around a year and a half had passed since the three had worked
together on the dubs; "working together" is an apt description in this
case because Williams supervised Calvello and Lauer as they simultaneously
dubbed their roles from separate booths. "We let them go back and forth
at each other in the studio, just like in the show," williams said. |
 After Williams
presented the actors with dolls of their characters that had them screaming
with delight, the audience was shown the infamously profane blooper reel.
It turns out that there's a chance that Calvello and Lauer might again
work together on the original Dirty Pair shows if the titles currently
on shelves sell well enough. ADV dubbed only ten OVA's and there are many
more left to be dubbed, along with the original TV series. (By the way,
a different cast dubbed the newer Dirty Pair Flash series.) |
 What do the
actors recall about their work? "It was the coolest thing to be able to
work with Pam, as far as the personality between the characters," said
Calvello. "Kei and Yuri wouldn't have had that rapport if we hadn't been
in the booth at the same time," added Lauer. "I'm in it for the love. the
paycheck is just an extra bonus - but I expect to get paid, too." |
