Some anime
fans would give anything to see this sort of advertising campaign for an
anime movie, but it's not going to happen...not in North America, anyway.
According to Urban Vision, this is the poster that will be used to promote
the new Vampire Hunter D movie when it's released in South Korea. You won't
see that kind of promotion for the same film in the U.S. and Canada, but
you're certain to see some promotion - and a theatrical release in major
markets. |
Marketing
manager Rhona Medina told Fanime Con fans about the new movie on Friday
evening. To start, Urban Vision is going to emphasize that the new Vampire
Hunter film is a fresh and different movie from the original film that
was released in 1985. "It's bigger than the anime genre," she said. "It
reaches out to action fans and to gothic fans." And there are plans to
show the new D film in theaters in September of 2001, in the largest U.S.
markets. |
One point
that's unique about this anime film is the language. It's being released
in English, not in Japanese, with actors including Dwight Schultz, Pamela
Seigel, Wendee Lee, and Andy Philpot as D. Even when the film is shown
in Japan, it'll be in English with Japanese subtitles, Medina said. "English
is the original-language version. They want to show how universal this
film can be," she said. The next step for the promoters is to decide what
title they will place on the movie: "Vampire Hunter D - Eternal Thirst"
is one possible title. |
