Sakura Con - Saturday - Pam Lauer
There's still some Dirty Pair left undubbed, and Pam Lauer is itching for a chance to finish the job. Lauer was Kei to Jessica Calvello's Yuri in the AD Vision dub of the original Dirty Pair Tv episodes. The Texas company completed around half of the original episodes, and Lauer would love to complete the series. "I'd fly back to Houston in a heartbeat," Lauer said about her desire to finish the English-language episodes. However, that won't come zoom, what with ADV's overstuffed schedule of video and theatrical releases, so much that the company had to hire an outside studio to handle some of their properties.
There's steady work for Lauer in the Pacific Northwest, where she moved after playing many roles in ADV productions, but there's not acting work. For all of the attractions that the Seattle area offers, there's not much voice acting. Those jobs can be found in Vancouver, British Columbia, but that means a three-hour drive and complicated tax laws that discourage Americans from trying to get the acting jobs, Lauer said.
To give you an idea of what things have been like for Lauer; she couldn't get a voice mail job. Lauer auditioned to be one of those people who provides the voice for the announcements and prompts on a voice mail service. She let the company know about her acting experience, but she still was passed over for the role. "I must have been too friendly. Those phone services are not nice," Lauer lamented.
