Anime Central - Hillary Haag - April 20, 2002
Hillary Haag once wanted to be a lawyer. Then she wanted to be an actor and moved to Los Angeles on a whim - where she became a waitress while waiting to become an actor. eventually she moved back to her native Texas and worked as a sales representative, but something stuck from her time in California. The acting people she met in L.A. noted her high-pitched voice and said that she had the potential for success as a voice actor. While Haag thought California was the place to go for acting success, the real path was already at home in Houston, where ADV Films advertised for actors to audition for one of their many productions. Haag accepted the challenge, tried out for a part and got the role of Yuuhki in Master of Mosquiton.
The breakthrough role for Haag was Nene Romonova in the Bubble Gum Crisis 2040 series. "Everyone laughs because they say my voice is like hers naturally," Haag said. "I was sad when that series was over. Since then, she's taken on roles such as Karinka in Steel Angel Kirumi. "People say they hear my voice and it matches the Japanese voices because it's real high," Haag said. Her high-pitched voice has led to some unusual roles; a dog in Excel Saga, a demon in Sin and nearly a little boy in Spriggan. The producers had to search hard to find a real boy to outperform Haag in the key role of the child demon.
Dorton in Sorcerous Stabber Orphen was her most difficult voice, because it was hard to reach and recreate. She wasn't helped when there was a six month delay in production, during which she forgot how to make the voice. In the Princess Nine baseball drama, "I get to exercise my acting voices a little more because the character has all of these trials and tribulations. Master of Mosquiton was good "...because I got to go from being a little kid to a sex kitten in five seconds." Haag, like many voice actors, also records commercials. "I never know where my voice is going to pop up. I was a "pregnant teenager" for planned parenthood," a role she received because another actor for ADV Films worked on the Planned Parenthood account in Texas and got her the job.
