AnimeIowa - Studio Ironcat
Studio Ironcat has been giving its fans some unique books in the five years they've been in existence, but for once the small Virginia studio was the recipient of a gift. A pair of fans who have presented AnimeIowa guests with hand-painted T-shirts in the past, this year had a spectacular work of art for Ironcat: a hand-made table cover with full-color renditions of the Ironcat logo and mascots. It's intended to be part of Ironcat's table displays at anime conventions. For those who think that something this attractive won't last long during a convention season, the fans replied that it's made to be waterproof and hold up against any dealers' room traffic.
Of course, Ironcat has more in mind for its fans, including its entry in a popular field of publications, the "how to draw" series. Emily DeJesus, wife of artist Robert DeJesus, said her husband will be contributing work to that series, along with Scott Frazier and Steve Bennett, who said the Ironcat "how to draw" book will draw on its artists' experience in creating manga and anime-themed art in the real world. "It;' common sense and hard work. It's how we learned to draw," said Bennett. He promised some inside stories about his experiences as an animator would be part of the Ironcat publication.
Earlier, Ironcat had announced they would be publishing the first print version of the popular Megatokyo online comic from Fred Gallagher and Rodney Caston. "They were very pleased with us. They pursued us. Fred and the guys said `Will you out our book out?' He's quite flattered, but  perplexed that people are asking him to release it unflipped," Bennett said. Ironcat also plans to release You and Me, HIroshi Aro's predecessor to Futaba-Kun Change, about a male teenager and a friendly female ghost. And there's a good chance that Ironcat will publish this site's cosplay book in 2003.
