Anime USA - Opening Ceremonies

Anime USA had a star-spangled mascot at their opening ceremonies. The event happened on a dreary-rainy day that was marred by the latest in a series of sniper shootings that had plagued the Washington, D.C. area. Steve Bennett of the soon to be renamed IC Entertainment said "We're not going to let any of this hold us back, and we're going to go ahead and have a good time.

Christian Brock headed up the small suburban convention in 2002, an event that managed to attract an interesting mix of artists and actors.

Hidenori Matsubara hadn't been to an U.S. anime convention before a trip to anime Expo a couple of years ago. The redesigner of the Oh My Goddess and Sakura Wars characters for animation now gets to two or three North American events a year.
