After
Keith Burgess of Manga Entertainment found the maze of stairs which led
to the right room, he chatted with fans about the company's release plans.
The new: the three-episode Read or Die series will not be edited into a
"movie." "When we first got it I thought it was going to be cut into a
movie," said Burgess. The Read Or Die DVD release will feature interviews
with the show's creative staff which were recorded at Anime Expo in 2002.
There also are plans to release a new film directed by Hiroyuki Kitakubo,
best known for Blood, the Last Vampire. Burgess cautioned fans that the
new film might seem confusing at first. The company plans an online community
with weekly chats, to change Manga Entertainment's reputation among some
hard-core fans. "We're trying to get it to where we listen to more of what
the fans have to say," Burgess said.
On
the old: Burgess said the 1980's Gunbuster series is planned for DVD, but
he has no release date yet - because not all of the production materials
are on hand. Some sound effects may need to be recreated for Gunbuster
and other older titles from Gainax, he said. Also, Manga won't dub Gunbuster.
Burgess was not certain if Manga would be able to get the rights for a
DVD release of the Giant Robo series, saying that project was "at a standstill."
There will be box sets for the Neon Genesis Evangelion movies and the 36-episode
Fist of the North Star TV series. As for the titles once released by U.S.
Renditions, Burgess wasn't certain which ones Manga Entertainment would
release.
