Virginia Tech has produced more than Michael Vick; it also created
Katsucon. At the opening ceremonies for the tenth Katsucon, convention
chaiur Keith Mayfield recalled how a pair of anime fans in Blacksburg,
Virginia dreamed up the idea for the convention.

Then, introduced were a group of guests of honor who helped make the
dream come true, starting with familiar face Steve Bennett from Studio
Ironcat.

It happened again: Emily DeJesus was the sole Studio Capsule
representative at the opening ceremonies because husband Robert DeJesus
was busy drawing sketches in the dealers' room.

Sci-fi artist Newton Ewell pulled himsefl away from some astonishingly detailed drawings to appear at the start of the show.

Actor Michael Coleman, part of the Vancouver collection of actors who
works for the Ocean Group among others, made a long trip to appear at
his first Katsucon.

Fred Perry was once domiciled in Virginia; he told the convention that he's finished 100 issues of his Gold Digger series.
