Yoko
Ishida has performed for anime fans in all parts of the U.S. - from
California through Illinois and to Massachusetts, where she sang at
Anime Boston. Fans have enjoyed Ishida's para para and eurobeat songs
so much that she and her managers have set up an online fan club, Club Sweets,
named after album that contained the title song from Snow Fairy Sugar
that Ishida performed. The online club's membership fee is $35 per
year, for which members get exclusive features such as an Ishida diary
and access to members-only events. The web site also is promoting
Ishida's latest music CD, "All of Me" from Geneon, which has her
versions of anime themes from Ah! My Goddess, Ai Yori Aoshi, Gunparade
March and Texhnolyze. The CD covers the same wide range of music that
Ishida performs and enjoys. "In categories such as para para and anime
songs and original songs, all are different but all of them work well
with my voice," Ishida said. "I don't want to link myself with one
category. I want to have a variety of music in my singing career."
The
Ishida concert at Anime Boston showed how she takes extra effort to
connect with U.S. fans. Her backup para para dancers onstage on
Saturday were American fans who were inspired by her music to learn
para para dancing. "I enjoyed being with those dancers very much - they
even made T-shirts on their own. I wanted to dance with them, and I
practiced with them before the concert, and I enjoyed the practice
myself. Randy, the leader of the dancers, I met him three years ago,
the first time I was in the United States. The dancers he brought in
were great - I enjoyed working with them." Even though she stays busy
in the recording studio, Ishida said performing in front of audiences
is still the heart of her career, since audiences offer feedback on her
performances that studio work can't offer. And she wants to be able to
communicate better with American audiences.
