Here's
the lady who performed the theme songs for the fan-favorite Onegai
"Please" Teacher and Please Twins series, and voiced the song for the
new Starship Operators series created by Ryo Mizuno. Newcomer Kotoko is
one of the smallest singers you'll find, but she produces a big sound.
"I prepare my voice before I go on stage," Kotoko said. "I was born
with this voice. I haven't gone through heavy vocal training - it just
comes naturally." Kotoko said she doesn't come from a performing
family, but she's always felt compelled to express herself through
music. "It was a dream I always had, to sing. One reason is that ever
since I was young, I loved to sing. I thought it would be a good way to
make a living." And it was the way she learned to express herself.
"When I was a child I was very introverted, and i liked to write down
my feelings. That led to my songwriting."
"For
a lot of my original songs, I first come up with a visual image in my
head. If the audience can see the visual in my head, I feel that I have
related to the audience." What does an audience want from Kotoko at a
concert? "It's still a little bit hard to figure out what an audience
wants. Even though I'm physically very small, I give my all." Kotoko is
a fan of all kinds of rock, and works hard to make those hard-driving
sounds in her performances, including her Anime Expo concert. "Prior to
coming here, I was worried that no one might be interested in my coming
here. But when I came on stage and saw the audience, I saw their faces
and warm reception, and I was overwhelmed."
