Media Blasters also had a display at Gen Con, which looked to be about
the size of their Fanime Con table. As with Anime Pavilion, Media
Blasters planned to have their big display at Otakon. It might mean
something that we counted six ecchi DVD's with maids on the cover at
the Media Blasters display...

...but it was more important that we couldn't take more than a few
steps in the Gen Con dealers' room without spotting an anime retailer
or character.
|

Another Gen Con tradition is the creation of elaborate card sculptures,
and these fans were just getting started on Thursday. Those are Lord of
the Rings cards and not the Magic: The Gathering cards that symbolize
gaming to many fans.
|

This is another symbol of Gen Con, a convention hall full of fans
determined to win a gaming tournament. This is the Upper Deck room,
which takes up two of the convention center's hall and fills tens of
thousands of square feet.
|

The largest space in the room, and perhaps the largest anime-themed
display ever in the U.S., was given over to this Yu-Gi-Oh gaming area.
The backdrop covers around 80 feet, and the cards hanging from the
ceiling are nearly as tall as the fans playing the game.
|

This view of the corner of the Yu-Gi-Oh area gives a better idea of the
scope of the backdrop. It also shows how hard the players concentrate
on the game; you don't dare make the slightest noise during one of
these tournaments.
