Anime Expo - yozurino* - 2006
American fans may not be familiar with the singing and songwriting duo with the unusually-spelled name of yozurino*, but they're becoming familiar with their music. Rino (left) and the uniquely-named yozuca* (right) have been responsible for theme songs for series such as Girls Bravo, Daphne in the Brilliant Blue, Nanaka 6/17, Midori Days and Zatch Bell. Rino said that Sentimental, the Midori Days theme, "...was the first time when I had to make an uptempo song by writing the lyrics and the music - I had a hard time with that. For Daphne, I wrote the lyrics and the music for The Time That Is Known As You. The song was originally written for another performer, but since the director liked it so much, the main voice actor for Daphne sings the later part of the song. For Gash Bell (Zatch Bell's original name), I wrote the insert song, I made a demo tape and they ended up using it in the actual show." yozuca* said "The theme song for Girls Bravo is called Going My Way, written by Otororo. As usual, it was a very difficult song to sing."
The work pays off when they get to hear their performances used in home video or on television. "It's really amazing to hear my voice and songs from the TV as it plays along with the animation," yozuca* said. "I write lyrics for animation songs, and to hear my lyrics and the visual animation merged together, as someone who is creating the lyrics, it's really electric - it touches me a lot." yozurino* appeared cute and giggly during their interview session, but the performers admitted that was their way of working off their nervousness, since they were just a few hours away from singing at an Anime Expo concert. "We haven't gotten over our nervousness at all, It's our first time in Los Angeles, and we've been a nervous wreck since we set foot here, but we're still excited," yozuca* said. "We came to the U.S. thinking that no on in the U.S. would know about us. After the opening ceremonies, a fan came up to us with a CD in hand and asked us to sign it. I was really touched." Rino said "I also felt the same. It was like in the autograph session, we had fans who listened to us on the online radio show. There was a nine year old girl who came up to us at the autograph line - I was amazed and touched at the same time."
