Adam Warren - Anime Convention Personality of the Week - Jan. 3, 2000 The first personality
of the new year drew the manga/comic that drew many people into fandom.
Adam Warren has the rare distinction of being one of the few Americans
to take an anime series into the comics world. Warren created the art work
for the Dirty Pair series published by Dark Horse in the U.S. Many fans
still aren't aware that Warren's versions of Kei and Yuri of the WWWA were
the first time those characters had appeared in anything other than anime
and some cover art for Japanese novels. Warren's scantily clad designs
- and Toren Smith's vibrant storylines - redefined the dirty Pair for fans
who had seen Kei and Yuri only in blurry bootleg tapes. Warren then followed
the Pair with the Quartet of Knight Sabres from Bubble Gum Crisis, which
has seen only one series as of this writing. Warren's time on the Japanese
characters has been limited because he's ridden the tide of manga success
into mainstream U.S. comics. |
