Jessica Calvello - Anime Convention Personality of the Week - Jan. 31, 2000 This frustrated
penguin who no one understands had never been at an anime convention until
Project: A-Kon in 1999. After a weekend of hanging out with thousands of
fans, she had to do it all over again, which led to her infamous appearance
at Anime Weekend Atlanta. Those who were there are still scratching their
heads over the penguin joke that led to the obscure "chocolate milk" punch
line, but they were delighted with Calvello. This native Texan was one
of the busiest performers for ADV Films. She was half of the Dirty Pair
at first, and then her best performances came as the lead in the dubbed
Cutey Honey (word was that series creator Go Nagai personally chose Calvello
for the English-language role). Jessica has now moved to New York, hoping
to become the leading character actor on Broadway. But she hasn't forgotten
anime fandom, planning to attend more conventions than ever before. And
at the end of 1999, Calvello was called back to Houston by ADV to voice
the ultimate female in the greatest anime of all time, Mink in Dragon Half. |
