Coming from America's best practical acting school, the world of the television soap opera, Ellyn Stern is one of those multi-voice performers who can disappear seamlessly into a role. Making a living as an actress since she was in her late teens, Stern has kept busy in the recording booth from the days when she was one of the versatile actors in the original Robotech dub (where her husband, Richard Epcar, also was in the English-language voice cast - it's said that the couple has had to direct each other in various dubs). Her dub work goes beyond anime dubs: Stern also works regularly in the world of live-action dubs, something that can be more difficult than anime dubs because of the additional challenge of matching lip flaps on movies filmed in languages other than English. Stern also wrote the dub script for the highly-touted Alexander animated series that was released under the title of Reign the Conquerer. If you're ever in southern California, check the schedule of Theatre Forty in Beverly Hills, where there's a good chance you'll find Stern on stage in a play.
