Naoki Yanagi -
Anime
Convention Personality of the Week - February 25, 2007
At the end of the Princess Tutu event in January 2007 at Austin, Texas, Naoki Yanagi
rose to express his sincere appreciation toward the fans who had made
the event possible. Yanagi knew that he was at a special event, and
that he had been part of a special project in the Princess Tutu series.
Yanagi had acted in other series, including The Galaxy Railways and
Basilik, but his role of Mytho in Tutu was the biggest of his career.
The often emotionless prince of the series is one of Tutu's major
characters, and his portrayal of that character has gotten Yanagi
almost as much attention as the actor who plays the often-clumsy Ahiru.
Mytho progresses from his emotionless state at the beginning of the
series to the point that he's almost expressive in the final episodes,
and he expressed that change at the Austin event when he read Mytho's
line "Tutu, I'm here for you" at the end of the presentation. It was
such a special event that some fans traveled all the way from Japan to
be on hand.
