Yunmao Ayakawa -
Anime
Convention Personality of the Week - March 18, 2007
Yunmao
Ayakawa is a queen in Japan, and a maid, a waitress, model and artist.
All of this is part of Ayakawa'a busy life as a professional cosplayer, which has brought her to America through Tenbu Productions.
The queen part comes when she works as one of the charming, decorative
"race queens" who waits at each each driver's grid position with a sign
and an umbrella. The women always wear a cute outfit, and Ayakawa
designs those clothes for herself and the other women who work for some
race teams. Ironically, she had to become a princess before she became
a queen. Ayakawa was wearing a Princess San costume from Princess
Mononoke at one of the Tokyo area's many cosplay events when she was
discovered by a gaming company representative who wanted her face to
appear on a game's promotional pictures. That led to Ayakawa's
professional career, but she was ready to take that step long before
that happened. Ayakawa is as good a clothes designer as she is a model,
and she creates most of the outfits that she wears. If the opportunity
and the funding ever happened, she'd love to make a Neon Genesis
Evangelon plug suit, a costume that costs thousands of dollars if
purchased from one of Japan's top costume companies. In the meantime,
she'll enjoy herself with her collection of authentic waitress clothes
from Anna Miller's, Hooters and the Hard Rock Cafe.
