Noboru Ishiguro has been a major part of the anime industry for decades.
The president of the Artland studio in Japan was a producer and director
on projects such as Megazone 23, Space Cruiser Yamato and Macross
and produced the Legend of Galactic Heroes. Appearing at Anime Expo
in 1999, he was part of two remarkable meetings: with members of the Star
Blazers voice cast and with Mari IIjima, whom he had not seen since the
days that Macross was produced. Macross, through its conversion
into a big part of the Americanized Robotech, has been a major part
of anime fandom in North America. Galactic Heroes, however, has
not gotten widespread release, but that hasn't stopped people from discovering
that series and enjoying it with the same fervor as Macross fans.
And Ishiguro has enjoyed meeting North American fans of all of those series.
However, he wasn't able to meet those fans at Katsucon in 2001. One week
before the Virginia convention, Artland's studios burned, forcing Ishiguro
to stay at home and rally his workers to recover from the damage. |
