Noel Neill -
Anime
Convention Personality of the Week - April 6, 2008
This is an old-school note for
someone who was a successful actor when home video was as imaginary as
the characters in the films where she appeared, a person who was a star
before the parents of today's fans were born. Noel Neill may have
appeared in more episodes of filmed Superman stories than any other
actor in history. She began her long career as Lois Lane in the
predecessor of series television, the once-popular movie serials, where
Neill was in two Superman serials for Columbia, decades before Sony
bought the studio. Neill returned to Superman when the Adventures
of Superman TV series entered its second season and the producers
needed another Lois to replace the departing Phyllis Coates. Part of
that series' legend is how most of the scenes were filmed out of
sequence; somehow, the cast made the show seem as if all of the scenes
on a specific set weren't all filmed at the same time. Five decades
after the Adventures of Superman went out of production, Neill
remains devoted to the series' fans and is a frequent guest at comic
conventions. She even celebrated her 75th birthday at a convention, the
Mid-Ohio-Con in Columbus, where Neill got a birthday cake from
"Superman" - actually one of the the area's best costumers.
