Tim Eldred - Anime Convention Personality of the Week - April 9, 2000 Once upon a time,
Tim Eldred was a normal kid, reading comics, watching TV and growing up
in Michigan - but that didn't last for long. In one of those life-defining
moments that changes a person's destiny, Eldred was shown a copy of Space
Fanzine Yamato, a fan publication thrown together by people who loved Star
Blazers. That caused Eldred to take a close look at the TV show, and for
the first time he understood the possibility of art and storytelling -
and realized that he could create stories that others would want to read.
Eldred went on to live the dream of a Blazers' fan when he worked on the
U.S. comic book version of the series, along with the Robotech comic. Later,
Eldred moved into animation, creating several of the episodes of the Godzilla
cartoon series that followed the late 1990's U.S. Godzilla movie. Eldred
is sincere when he says that comic art has great entertainment potential,
and the best comic books are every bit as good as movies. |
