Ralph Lister -
Anime
Convention Personality of the Week - July 8, 2007
Some
people say there are more British actors in California than in Britain.
There's an expatriate community of British performers who have moved to
the Los Angeles area in search of American fame, and Ralph Lister is
one of them. Lister knew he'd made the correct choice when he went to
Anime Expo in 2007. The producers of the dub of the second animated
Hellsing series brought several of the series' actors to the
convention, Lister among them. He was treated as a conquering hero,
along with the rest of the dub cast who went to an event that has had
the reputation of disdaining dub actors. That reputation has changed in
recent years with the rise of anime popularity, and Lister's voice
acting is one of the reasons. Years ago, Lister had found many stage
roles in England before deciding to seek some success in the U.S. More
stage and film work followed, and some of them were anime dub roles.
Work in that area put Lister in the right place to get the role for
which most anime fans know him best, Walter in the two Hellsing series.
Talisen Jaffe, the voice director of the Hellsing dub, has said that
Lister was perfectly suited for the role, and those who have seen the
show heartily agree.
