Anna Tsuchiya -
Anime
Convention Personality of the Week - July 29, 2007
The
ultimate goal of the most ambitious Japanese pop music performers is to
conquer the world, to find sales and success outside of the home
country. Anna Tsuchiya is the latest to launch a worldwide campaign,
with a series of concerts that began in the summer of 2007 at Anime
Expo. Tsuchiya brought to that tour a collection of career successes
that included years as a model, a clothes designer and a singer. She's
been the star of several Japanese photobooks, had a breakout film role
in Kamikaze Girls, and showed that she can live the rock star life when
she performed theme songs for the popular animated Nana series.
However, Tsuchiya's greatest challenges are still ahead as she prepares
to look for success in other parts of the world than Japan.
"I'll be leaving my country and I'll be showing what I'm doing to
people in other countries," Tsuchiya said through an interpreter at an
interview session. "I wonder if I'll be deemed good or bad? It is is
still an unknown world to me. What I do isn't fabricated, it comes from
within. I have the confidence that I can get across to the audience.
I'm still nervous...but in a way I am strangely calm. Music, in a way,
is something that can soften the differences between the nationalities."
