Carl Horn - Anime Convention Personality of the Week - Aug. 9, 1999

In the growing Viz Communications empire of publications, videos and collectibles, Carl Gustav Horn sticks mostly to the publications side. If you enjoy the English-language release of the Neon Genesis Evangelion manga, you have Horn to thank. While "higher powers" at Viz made the decision to publish an "unflipped" edition which is read right-to-left, Japanese style, Horn made it work. Horn is one of the few anime convention personalities who, unfailingly, shows up dressed in a suit and tie. That's a radical statement in a convention subculture where anything beyond a T-shirt is extreme (except for a costume, of course). But, just when you thought you had Horn figured as a strait-laced executive type, he showed up at Anime Central '99 with bright blond anime-style hair.
