| Yoko Ishida - Anime Convention
Personality of the Week - Aug. 11, 2002 |
Para
para music and dancing offers a fascinating blend of contrasts. The dancers,
with their broad hand motions, seem all but serene, in contrast to the
relentless beat that drives the remixes of familiar anime tunes. And in
the middle of the mix, holding things together with her bright and enthusiastic
voice, is Yoko Ishida. Hired specifically to brighten the Pioneer series
of Para Para Max CD's, Ishida was an equally bright presence at U.S. summer
anime conventions. Every theme song she performed seemed to bring another
cheer from fans, who were fascinated by the para para dance style. "I've
been singing many kinds of anime songs. I would like to sing anything fun,"
Ishida told fans. "I've sung more than 100 songs and it's hard to choose
among them, but Pretear is the best." Ishida let producers choose the songs
on the many Para Para Max albums where she's sung, but she insisted that
the Sailor Moon theme be included on one of those albums. (Ishida is the
200th winner of the Personality of the Week award on this site, by the
way.) |
