Yuri Lowenthal - Anime Convention Personality of the Week - September 3, 2006
You
could call Yuri Lowenthal the Greg Ayres of the West Coast, except that
Greg was never Superman, and Greg hasn't been part of the Naruto cast,
either. After Ayres was cast at Goku in the dub of the first Saiyuki
series, the rights to the second Saiyuki series went to a West Coast
company and Lowenthal got the Goku role in the second dub. (Ayres was
very pleased with Lowenthal's take on the Goku role.) Lowenthal's
recent dub roles have been in red-hot fan favorites - Sasuke in Naruto,
Keigo in Bleach, Leo in Scrapped Princess and Katsuo in Prince of
Tennis. He even gets to reuse his first name as Yuri in Kyo Kara Maoh.
And in a couple of weeks, Lowenthal will become the second anime dub
specialist this year to voice Superman when the Legion of Super Heroes
makes its Kids WB debut. (Crispin Freeman plays an older version of the
character in a Justice League video game.)
