Yoshiyuki Fudetani - Anime Convention Personality of the Week - September 10, 2006
Don't
recognize the name or the face? Let's see if you recognize these
titles: Excel Saga, Hellsing, Daphne in the Brilliant Blue,
Geobreeders, Trigun. If you pay close attention to the credits for
these animated series, you've noted a line that says something like
"originally published in Young King Ours." That manga anthology is a
source of those animated shows and more, making it one of the most
influential publications of its kind. Yoshiyuki Fudetani is Young King
Ours' chief editor, and that makes
him the person who has to ride herd on all of those artists. That gives
him the rare privilege of working with
creative forces such as Yasuhiro Nightow, Satoshi Shiki and Koshi
Rikdo, but it also gives him the burden of making sure they submit
their work on time. From what Fudetani said when he appeared at Otakon,
all of the stories you've heard of late-running artists are true.
Fudetani seemed to have little hope of getting Kouta Hirano to finish
some Hellsing stories in time for the release of a compliation, but he
wasn't going to give up.
