Takayuki Karahashi - Anime Convention Personality of the Week - Sept. 13, 1999

This may be the quietest of any of the personalities honored on this page - until you sit him down with a group of translators. Takayuki Karahashi is one of the most prominent anime translators in the business, handling jobs for Viz and other companies. You'll see him with his trademark cap and beard at conventions, sitting at the head tables with leading artists. Sometimes he'll be sitting by a telephone, as at Animazement '99 when he interpreted the phone calls that director Yasuhiro Imagawa made from Japan. Karahashi doesn't say much on his own when he translates for others, but he was extremely outspoken when he appeared with other translators at an Anime Central '99 panel. It turns out that the small fraternity of anime translators doesn't agree with each other all the time.
