| Sonny Strait - Anime Convention
Personality of the Week - Sept. 22, 2002 |
It's
almost unfair to list Sonny Strait as just the voice of Krillin in the
U.S.-dubbed episodes of Dragon Ball. Strait is popular enough at that,
and drew plenty of attention when he drove across the country in a Hummer
to promote sales of the collectable Dragon Ball Z card game. But before
Strait was a dub actor, he was an artist - and more than just a "cartoonist,"
as he referred to himself. Strait was chosen by Wendy Pini to help write
and illustrate one of the Elfquest stories, which is something that doesn't
happen casually or by coincidence. (You
can see the results at Strait's web site.) And Strait, who also has
stage acting experience in Texas, has gone deeper into the world of dubbuing.
He was the voice of the robotic host, Tom, for the Cartoon Network's Toonami.
He was one of the voices in the Sync-Point dub of I'm Gonna Be an Angel.
Strait also has directed the dub of the most recent Lupin III film, and
played the title role himself. |
