Wayne Kaa - Anime Convention Personality of the Week - Sept. 27, 1999 The Anything Goes
School of Masquerade Arts takes cosplay seriously, but not too seriously.
They work hard on their costumes, and they nearly work hard on their skits,
but not so hard that they don't have fun on stage. Wayne Kaa personifies
that cosplay spirit that mixes hard costume preparation with onstage silliness
and convention parties. The question, of course, is whether the Anything
Goes School of Masquerade Arts works hardest on the costumes, the parties
or the masquerade skits? Long and careful observation over two years produces
the opinion that the costumes get a lot of attention, the parties get a
lot of preparation...and the skits come together, somehow. Still, Wayne
has a pleasant memory from the Anime Expo masquerade in 1998, when the
crowd exploded in a "Sa-tan! Sa-tan!" chant at the sight of his costume. |
