Yuko Goto -
Anime
Convention Personality of the Week - September 30, 2007
It's proper that Yuko Goto
voices the time-traveling character of Mikuru Asahina in The Melancholy
of Haruhi Suzumiya. After all, she had a voice role in Kujibiki
Unbalance, the show based on a manga inside the Genshiken world that is
a sort of time-traveling story in its own way. In the same way that
Unbalance mixes up Genshiken, Goto says her Suzumiya character, who
comes from the future, has to "suck up" and not let people know smart
she is. "I don't have any special skills," Goto said. "I'm a normal
person who makes things better. I'm kind of useless, but I make people
happier." Where Goto really makes people happy is when she joins the
other members of the SOS Brigade, Aya "Haruhi Suzumiya" Hirano and
Minori "Yuki Nagato" Chihara, in live performances of Suzumiya songs
and dances. Those performances were exclusive to Japan until the three
Suzumiya actors traveled to California for Anime Expo, where American
fans got to enjoy what they had been missing.
