Ben Dunn - Anime Convention Personality of the Week - Oct. 4, 1999 Fandom led Ben
Dunn to start drawing his own manga-style comics. Success came early with
the famed Ninja High School series. What came next was a series of ups
and downs: the formation of Antarctic Press and the move of NHS from Eternity
to Dunn's publishing house; the expansion of Antarctic to include more
manga-style titles, including furry stories and the original Mangazine;
Fred Perry's cult favorite, Gold Digger; the decision to drop many of Antarctic's
titles; the success of Warrior Nun Areala and the creation of several spinoff
titles; commissioning a test Areala animation; selling Areala and Gold
Digger dolls. The second Antarctic expansion may be underway, following
the relaunch of NHS and Areala. Through all of it, Dunn and his brother
stay optimistic, always searching for the next big break in the business
- and always showing up at their home convention, Project: A-Kon. |
