For a few dizzying years,
Veronica Taylor
was on top of the voice acting world. She already had several anime dub roles
on the East Coast, including Amelia in The Slayers, Queen Emeraldas in Harlock
Saga, and Shia Has in Irresponsible Captain Tylor. Then Taylor got the role
of a lifetime when 4Kids Entertainment took the risk of importing a show
called "Pocket Monsters" and cast her as the lead, renamed from Satoshi to
Ash Ketchum for English-speaking audiences. That role put Taylor in the hottest
imported animated series in U.S. history, the lead actor in a show that became
a national obsession in the late 1990's. Taylor was kept busy with show after
show and even movie dubs. Yet, knowing how hard acting success can be, Taylor
could joke "Don't" when fans asked how they could become voice actors. Pokemon
is no longer the biggest fad on the block, but it's been steady work for
Taylor. She's still busy in the New York voice acting world, though: listen
for her voice in the role of April O'Neil in the latest version of Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mutsuki in Space Pirate Mito and even in Yu Yu Hakusho.
