David Vincent - Anime Convention Personality of the Week - October 15, 2006
Van
of Gun Sword is one of the most imperfect, least heroic lead anime
characters in recent years. He's slothfully lazy on one hand, an
obsessive condiment eater on the other, and can become enraged in a
moment. To handle this extraordinary character, the producers of the
Gun Sword dub chose an actor with an ordinary name, David Vincent. "My
background is all theater in New York," Vincent said. "What I did was
to do a little bit of character development." That work has proven to
be one of the best experiences in Vincent's dubbing career. "It's
a blast to play Van," said Vincent. "There are so many different levels
to him. A lot of people compare him to Spike (Spiegel from Cowboy
Bebop), but there are so many differences. As the show moves, Van
changes." In a dub full of strong performers, including Michelle Ruff
as the series' eye-candy character Carmen 99, Vincent stands out as an
actor who can express Van's wild mood swings while staying credible and
in character.
