PikaBelleChu - Anime Convention Personality of the Week - October 29, 2006
A
decade has passed since the first Pocket Monsters game was launched in
Japan. Over the years, the game has evolved like one of the game's
characters, spreading into the video game and card game worlds, and
becoming known as Pokemon in English. If Pokemon remains a stronger
franchise than contemporaries such as Teletubbies, Tamagotchi and
Furby, it's because of extreme fans such as PikaBelleChu. Pokemon
changed her life, and not a day passes when she's not affected by the
game and its characters. She drives one of the Volkswagen Beetles
painted as Pikachu, and spends most of her spare time thinking up new
ways to make Pokemon costumes. As befits a former Disney employee,
she's created her own original line of Pokemon princesses, human
versions of Pokemon in formal dresses. No one will forget the intensely
pink Jigglypuff dress, complete with microphone and marker, that she
brought to conventions one year. And now PikaBeleChu has brought her
boyfriend into Pokemon costuming, putting him in a custom-made Pikachu
suit.
